The Lunar New Year is just around the corner and there’s never a better time to celebrate than now. Yusheng consists of raw shredded vegetables – mainly carrots, radish, ginger and green papaya – a variety of sauces both sweet and savoury, as well as raw fish in a form of salmon or abalone. Before the Yusheng is tossed in a group setting, the leader of the group adds each ingredient to the Yusheng while saying auspicious wishes for the new yearm and start to ‘Lohei!”. The modern version of Yusheng as we know now was standardised and popularised by local Cantonese chefs. If you wanna dig in to the history of it, Dr Leslie Tay has done a fantastic research.
This year, we dish out places where you can have halal Yusheng so you can join in the festivities with your loved ones, friends and colleagues and join in the prosperity toss.
