Every year since 2017, I run versions of kuehrated where my team will sell kueh on behalf of our bakers. I try them, I test them, I curate a list of my favourites and we sell them on our platforms at a commission. However, this year, we aren’t able to do that because of manpower shortage and also because our team is much focused on launching Iyyara App.
Nonetheless, due to the many questions that have come in from our followers and bakers for our curated list of kueh, here it is! Each and every baker included in this list have been tried and tested. If they are in this list, they are good, but for those that really hit my tastebuds at all the right spots, I have indicated it with my now catchy hashtag #ravingreviews.
The only difference? This year you can purchase from the bakers directly.

1. N Homemade Confections
I’ve known about N Homemade Confections about 2 years now. Their kueh always comes up really consistent, very pretty and always has a good balance of flavours. Never too sweet, not too soft, and almost everything just right. If you need a trusted baker – she can be one of them.

2. Tella Pops

I remember eating these 3 years ago. My first thought was: OMG Sedapnye! These are fried to achieve that light crisp (which also made it an addictive snack) with flavours that are are all around pleasant and a crowd pleaser. 4. Baker’s Luv
I have been enjoying tapak kuda from Baker’s Luv for the past 7 years – so far, I have not tried tapak kuda from other bakers that managed to top hers. Her tapak kuda are immaculate – perfectly soft and she has managed to delicately balance ratio of cake to filling that you will find in no other. 5. Cookie Culture
What I remember most about cookie culture is them making cookies from the Chinese Culture available for the Halal food Community – The Honey Cornflakes and the Cornflakes Cookies. Take a bite of both, and you’ll know they are different.

6. Three’s A Crowd
Other than flavoursome Ice Cream, Three’s A Crowd also makes melt-in-your-mouth pinapple balls, Ondeh-ondeh Balls and the Seasalt Dark Chocolate Cookies that will leave its darkest flavours etched in your memories.

7. Ayn Cookie Madness
One bite of these cookies and you will already know the signature flavour that is Ayn Cookie Madness. It tastes a bit like coffee, a bit like biscoff, it’s mighty crunchy and it even crumbles. Ahh. It’s the perfect cookie – but I should warn you that this is an acquired taste. Many will love it, but there will always be some that don’t get it at all. Yet, it is #highly recommended by me!

8. Wahyu Brand
This is the stuff of legends. Rempeyek from Wahyu Brand is always good when eaten fresh. Don’t keep them too long, and order for delivery reaaallly close to raya for best tasting products. When we sold this in the last few years, it seems the whole world orders Rempeyek Kacang – but for me, it’s Gajus. It will always be the Rempeyek Gajus for me.

9. Ratu Lemper
I have been a fan for Ratu Lemper’s Lemper ever since she started. She now has an extensive repertoire of Malay and Indonesian Kueh. For Raya, she goes crazy baking all the lapis fresh from her bakery for her customers. Wildly popular lapis based on our orders from past years is the lapis prune. but my fav is the Cempedak and Original. The main reason I love her lapis so much is that the flavours are just right, it’s not dry, it’s not oily either, and yet it has a good amount of moist. Try this if you haven’t!

10. Cartoon Cookies & Co
These cookies have that traditional charm! Lightly crispy, not too sweet, and overall pleasant flavours. In malay, this type of sweetness, my mom like to call manis manis buah. For the Bantal Peluk Saloma, has crumbly melt in your mouth soft pastry, and it’s filled with “meaty” sweet dates with a good bite. The Cranberry Cornflakes Crunch is mild in flavours, and suuuper crunchy. And, if you’re a chocolate lover with a sweet spot for crumbly cookies, go for the black beauty.

11. Artisanal Persia
The overall theme at Artisanal Persia is that the Baklavas a suuuper crispy and crunchy and they are lightly sweet. Just a warning, they are pretty addictive. Pair this ‘base’ of baklava texture and flavours with more intense flavours of the fillings and you will get an indulgent treat in your mouth. No secret that my favourite is the 3 #ravingreviews ones in the list. This one comes HIGHLY recommended.

12. Simply Dlights
Simply Dlights sets their intention to create all our favourite sweet treats, but make it less sweet, or essentially healthier with less sugar or diabetic friendly. when anyone tells me this, I become doubtful of how it would taste. But after trying out their bakes for myself, I no longer doubt it. The meringues and macaroons are still crunchy and really flavourful. I will not hesitate to recommend this for every sweet tooth whether or not you care about your desserts being healthy, because these don’t taste any different
